“This Would Be Keto for Life”: Years After Retirement, Veteran Bodybuilder Known as the ‘King of Aesthetics’ Reveals the One Food He Would Eat Every Single Day

The Muscle and Fitness YouTube channel is back with another episode of The Menace Podcast. The host Dennis James brought Milos Sarcev, Chris Cormier, and the legendary bodybuilder Frank Zane onto the show much to the excitement of bodybuilding fans. Zane candidly revealed the secret to his finely conditioned physique back in the day.

The Chemist revealed that it was his diet that led him to sport a Mr. Olympia figure thrice. To the astonishment of the guests on the podcast, Zane divulged that he didn’t alter his diet much during the off-season.

The video showed Milos Sarcev complimenting the 80-year-old for his insane conditioning and quickly posed the veteran with a question. “How did you diet I mean you are specific to say experimented but how did you experiment? What did you do?” he asked out of curiosity.

I followed a low-carbohydrate diet,” Zane answered. His macro intake during his prime included 50 grams of carbs and 200 grams of protein daily. He, however, didn’t rely on extra fats, thus negating the high-fat diet. He would get his healthy fats from fish.

The Chemist related that he didn’t gain much weight during the off-season as well. And he never had too much carbs in his life. 150 grams of carbs would be a high-carb day for Zane. The 3x Mr.Olympia opened up, “I eat red meat almost every day!” Milos Sarcev while listening carefully to Zane’s diet regime exclaimed, “ This is Keto for life!”

Earlier, the golden-era bodybuilder revealed his workout regime while training for Mr.Olympia.

Frank Zane documented his training routine, while he was competing for bodybuilding titles, in Zane Bodybuilding Manual. He followed a three-way split workout regime. On the first day, it would be biceps and abs, followed by calves and thighs on the second. Shoulder and chest workouts were taken care of on the third day.

The Hall of Famer is against heavy weights and focused on longevity. “Make lighter weights feel heavier. That was my motto. So, you don’t have to really go heavy; you have to make it feel heavy,he said speaking about his training technique.
