Gym training has evolved significantly over the years, transitioning from a mere focus on lifting weights to a more scientific and holistic approach. Sports science, with its multidisciplinary nature, has become an indispensable tool in optimizing gym workouts and enhancing athletic performance. By implementing sports science, an athlete can target better physical well-being while focusing on longevity as well.

In training for the sport of bodybuilding, athletes often tend to face difficulties in their later years due to the heavy weight lifting that they get involved in during their young years. For this very reason, training while keeping longevity in mind is really essential. Laying emphasis on this, 8X Mr. Olympia Lee Haney revealed a sports science doctor that he worked with during his prime years.

In a recent interview with Escape Fitness, Lee Haney revealed that he worked with Dr. Fred Hatfield during his prime years. Dr. Hatfield’s contributions to the field of strength training and powerlifting made him a highly respected figure in the fitness community. His work continues to influence and inspire athletes and coaches around the world. Talking about Dr. Hatfield, Haney stated, “He squatted over 1000 pounds to set a world record at the age of 46. You don’t squat a 1000 pounds when you are 46 years old.”

Who are the other bodybuilders that used to train for longevity?

In an earlier interview with Escape Fitness, Haney revealed that there have been multiple bodybuilding legends who trained heavily throughout their careers but never got seriously injured despite that. He states that the reason for this is proper recovery. Naming a few other bodybuilders of such kind, Haney said “Ed Corney, you have Arnold, you have Franco Columbu…We never got hurt, we’re still walking around without injuries and without surgeries.”
