Fourteen years ago, on May 2, 2009, ‘The PacMan’ clipped ‘The Hitman’s” wings to such an extent that the latter went on a break only to return three years later. A second consecutive knockout loss following the Pacquiao fight sent him into retirement for good. After the victory over Keith Thurman on July 20, 2019, he took a break and returned in 2021 to face Yordenis Ugas, who defeated him via unanimous decision on August 21. With that, Manny Pacquiao finally announced his retirement from boxing.

Wallet to get lighter for Manny Pacquiao

The video shared by DAZN has already received over 300k views and over three hundred retweets. But it seems his pre-retirement fight whipped up an issue that culminated in a lawsuit against him. Paradigm Sports, which also represents former UFC Lightweight champion Conor McGregor signed up Pacquiao in February 2020. Reportedly they were attempting to negotiate a match between the Filipino Southpaw and Mickey Garcia.

According to the article ‘mmafighting.com,’ Pacquiao ended up working with Al Haymon‘s Premier Boxing Champions. Additionally, he agreed to a bout against Errol Spence Jr. However, the clash didn’t happen, as Spence Jr. had to pull out because of an eye injury. In his place, Yordeni Ugas fought Manny Pacquiao.

As a result, Paradigm Sports filed a case in 2021, where it sued for damages. Finally, a jury at the Honorable Supreme Court of Orange County in California ruled in their favor and held Pacquiao guilty of breaching the contract. Thus, Paradigm Sport will receive $5.1 million and $2 million in legal fees. On top of that, the firm is entitled to ten percent interest per year on the total verdict amount for three years.

The $5.1 million amount constitutes the $3.3 million that Paradigm Sports provided Pacquiao upon signing him. The remaining $1.8 million are damage awards. After losing in court, ‘The PacMan’ must now pay more than $8 million to settle the complaint.
