Recently, boxing journalist Lance Pugmire tweeted a report about the gate revenue of this fight. He wrote, “Looks like @Canelo and @SweetHandsPlant generated a $17 million gate in their Saturday night sellout at @MGMGrand, I’m told.”
In a subsequent tweet, he again provided the gate revenue numbers. He wrote, “A second source tells me now that the @Canelo @SweetHandsPlant gate numbers are actually $18 million plus. Boxing was definitely all the way back to business Saturday night.”

The above numbers are definitely surprising because many expected this event to turn out big. However, the gate exceeded expectations.
Both Plant and Canelo traded punches throughout the contest. However, Canelo, who used his body shots well, had an upper hand over the lanky Plant. Finally, in round 11, Alvarez struck ‘Sweethands’ with some blistering blows, flooring him twice in the same round.
That said, the referee stepped in to stop the bout after the second knockdown to term Alvarez as the winner.
Canelo Alvarez – A super-middleweight great
The p4p king was the aggressor in this fight. Moreover, he landed a whopping 41% of power punches on his American adversary.

Even if the fight had gone to the judges, Canelo would have emerged as a winner with the momentum he had in this fight. In every sense, Alvarez showed why he is a super-middleweight great.
