The identity of Canelo Alvarez‘s next opponent on May 4 remains uncertain, although recent reports suggested that Jermall Charlo and Jaime Munguia were the leading contenders. In an announcement on TV Azteca in Mexico, Canelo revealed that his upcoming fight will be against an American opponent rather than a Mexican.

Jaron Ennis will be facing Cody Crowley as mandated by the IBF. The Canadian fighter began his professional boxing career in 2014. Throughout his career, he has maintained an undefeated record of 22 wins, with nine victories coming by knockout. Interestingly, despite his successful run, Crowley has never competed for or won a major world title. Therefore, if the proposed bout against Ennis materializes, it would undoubtedly represent the most significant opportunity of his career to date.

As Michael Benson reported, the IBF has mandated that undefeated welterweight champion Jaron Ennis must defend his title against Crowley in his next bout. Both parties have been given a 30-day negotiation period starting from January 31. In a letter that Boxing Scene obtained, IBF championship chairman Carlos Ortiz informed representatives of both boxers about the mandatory defense requirement. The leading available contender is none other than ranked #3 Cody Crowley.

Negotiations are expected to commence immediately and conclude by March 1, 2024. If they do not reach an agreement within the 30-day period, the IBF has decided to proceed with a purse bid. His father and head trainer Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis represents Ennis. This is due to his ongoing legal dispute with NOW Boxing Promotions, his estranged promoter. Meanwhile, a former champion has tried to impart some wisdom upon Ennis.

Tim Bradley has crucial advice for Jaron Ennis

Despite sharing the same division for years, Terence Crawford and Jaron Ennis have yet to face each other in the ring, each forging their own career paths. While Crawford has attained undisputed champion status twice, Ennis, despite being a world champion, has not yet reached the highest echelons of the sport. Considering the lack of immediate interest from Crawford, former two-division champion Timothy Bradley suggests that Ennis should focus on establishing his own legacy.

Bradley highlights the importance of seizing current opportunities, facing willing opponents, and progressing steadily without fixating on others’ achievements. Essentially, he advises Ennis to prioritize his career advancement rather than waiting for potential matchups with top fighters like Crawford. Bradley believes that boxing is more business than sport. This is why he urges Ennis to build his resources and not concern himself with what other fighters are doing.
