On September 17, 2022, Gennady Golovkin will fight Canelo Alvarez for the third time. The first fight between the two was a draw, but Alvarez in their rematch capitalized and won via majority decision, handing GGG his only loss since his pro debut in 2006. Golovkin is 40, and even though he comes with a recent victory over Ryota Murata, practically and with an expenditure of great labor, there seems to be a few days of boxing left in Golovkin’s fiery arms. On the other end, Alvarez lost to Bivol, and a threat in David Benavidez deliberately threatens the legacy of Saul.

At this, the thought that appears interrogates why we should again pay to watch a GGG vs. Saul fight. Aren’t there other boxers in the sport worthy of the limelight Alvarez and GGG have long been sharing? Speaking of which, the number one ranking junior middleweight (up to 154lbs) Jermall Charlo recently offered Gennady Golovkin a fight.

Reportedly, the following is what the former WBC middleweight and IBF light middleweight title-holder said:

GGG should not be fighting Canelo. Canelo already beat your a**. So fight me.”

Jermall Charlo believes Gennady Golovkin is wasting his time

Charlo is 32-0, and it seems he is concerned about his name. It will be a conjecture to state he would win, but a victory against Gennady Golovkin would definitely mean more prestige on Charlo’s yet unbeaten resume in the game. In addition, Charlo is eight years younger than Golovkin and will enjoy a 9cm reach advantage. Maybe it is because Golovkin is 40, and a setting-sun as a competitor in the sport, that Charlo thinks it is an ideal time to challenge GGG in a boxing bout.

Although it may be frustrating to some, the third fight against Canelo Alvarez is the only chance GGG would ever get to avenge his only loss in pro boxing. Do you think Charlo is serious about fighting Golovkin? Let us know in the comments.
