Charlo is the WBC middleweight champion and a fight between him and Benavidez has been in contention for a while. However, ‘El Bandera Roja’ has a major chunk of his wins and former titles at the 168-pound weight class. That said, he’ll look to trace a shot here rather than moving down.

Jose Uzcategui

Benavidez was initially aligned to face Uzcategui. Unfortunately, as the latter tested positive for a banned substance, the fight was scrapped.

As a result, it’s unclear on how long will Uzcategui stay out of the game.

Caleb Plant

Plant, the former IBF super-middleweight champ, suffered a dreadful defeat to Canelo Alvarez last weekend. Since then, there’s no news on when and whom will Plant face on his return. On the 0ther hand, Benavidez is desperate for a title shot and he’s only looking to remain active from hereon.

That said, a fight with Caleb Plant might not be an ideal one at this stage.

Canelo Alvarez

At this stage, the only fight that looks viable for Benavidez is the one against the undisputed super-middleweight champ. Alvarez is expected to return to the ring around May 2022, and Benavidez has done enough to be able to get his hands on Canelo.

Moreover, it’s like an ultimate fight for the young gun, as he’s called out the p4p star umpteen times.
