It is yet to be a complete year since Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury trilogy took place inside the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. ‘The Gypsy King’ won the fight via a knockout in the 11th round. Following the trilogy of Fury vs. Wilder, Fury fought with Dillian Whyte and retired from the sport of boxing in an unprecedented shock. He said, “A lot of people were saying Deontay seems so tired in the trilogy. Well, Deontay never was that big in a fight before. So, once again you gotta give him credit for trying things. He wanted to put some buckles, so he didn’t just get pushed around. He had good moments in that fight.”

Here is what else Scott added about Wilder’s performance in the ring that night.

Malik Scott on the weight being a factor for Deontay Wilder in his last fight with Tyson Fury

According to Scott, Wilder had to put on some weight, for he was fighting a boxer as big and powerful as Tyson Fury. However, the weight may have not been the sole factor that cost The Bronze Bomber the fight. Scott added by saying, “Obviously, he got tired. The ball probably wore on him. I’m not as much as I train him as close I am to him I’m not in the ring with him. I can’t tell you how he’s feeling in the ring.”

Regarding Wilder’s weight and the immediate consequent of slowing down, Scott further said, “One plus one is two you know. The weight may have been a factor maybe not. But if had to bet on it I would say him being as big as he was for that fight and him looking as tired as he did to most people maybe the weight did have a factor.”

Wilder later blamed his heavy costume saying that it had worn out his legs prior to the fight. However, if the bodyweight was a factor, then there had to be a remedy. The remedy was to improve cardio and become lean. Scott believes Wilder has achieved the leanness he lacked in his last fight.

“But either way, as you can tell that so-called wrong has been made right because when you look at him now he’s lean as mean,” he concluded by saying.
