He was followed by his rivals Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, who earned $130 million and $120 million, respectively. NBA star LeBron James came in at 4th place earning $119. 5 million with Alvarez in 5th place at $110 million.

However, this does not reflect the whole story, as the majority of the earnings of the top three athletes were through sponsorships. When it comes to purses, Alvarez has the third highest earnings, with $100 million from purses tied with Mbappe. The athletes with the highest career purses are golf stars, Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson, with earnings of $104 million and $102 million. While Alvarez has earned the majority of his wealth from purses, his business acumen extends far beyond the realm of boxing. This was proved as he made deals and partnerships with multiple organizations looking to further expand his brand.

A Look into Canelo Alvarez’s business ventures

Alvarez recently signed with Excel Sports Management, which represents him in marketing deals. By signing with this powerhouse agency, he has become the first boxer on their roster. Moreover, his partnership with Hennessy only proves his ability high-profile endorsements.
