Oscar De La Hoya retired as a boxer in 2008 but has still not cut ties with the sport. In 2002, he founded, “Golden Boy Promotions” and post his retirement, the former champion has been performing his responsibilities as a promoter, taking charge of the careers many notable fighters such as the likes of Canelo Alvarez (Now with Eddie Hearn), Ryan Garcia, and many others. Notably, Alvarez left the promotion and signed with “Matchroom Boxing” in 2020. Not to mention last year, there was a lot of tension between Garcia and De La Hoya but ultimately a renewed contract kept their relationship alive.

Another such instance was when Joseph Diaz Jr, the former super-feather interim champion, years ago expressed his dissatisfaction with the promotion. Recently, Diaz even claimed that he is longer with the promotion which made headlines in the boxing world. However, it was later clarified by his manager that the contract would conclude in May of this year. The boxing world was under the impression that after the contract runs down, the boxer would part ways with the promotion.
