‘Don’t Let Your Managers…’: Years Before Separating From Floyd Mayweather’s Promotion, Mike Tyson Told Gervonta Davis How to Deal With Managers

Lightweight contender Gervonta Davis has been the center of attention in the boxing world over the past couple of weeks. Tank recently revealed that he was now a free agent and it would be unlikely he would fight under his promoter Floyd Mayweather’s banner again.
Moreover, boxing legend Mike Tyson might have something to do with ‘Tank’s’ decision as he once gave some advice to the young boxer that might have played a role in his separation. In a face time video a couple of years back Tyson advised Davis to not let his managers control who and when he fights.

“If you’re a fighter friend, you help them make some money right. You guys should come up to some conclusion and don’t let your managers. You have to say let’s make a fight and that’s when your lawyers come in” he said.
Moreover, he claimed that he did not need to garner a relationship of friendship in business and that one need to be more civilized while booking fights.
“You don’t have to have friends to negotiate a deal. You know two black men should be able to have a conversation about business and not be fighting over one another. They say this is how we have to handle business, have to be civilized.” he added.

It looks like ‘Iron Mike’ might have had a hand in Davis now parting ways from the promotion he has been with his whole life. In addition, during ‘Tank’s‘ fight against Rolly Romero this was the talking point ahead of the fight with Mayweather mostly being absent from the conferences.
Gervonta Davis confirms split with Floyd Mayweather’s promotion
Davis recently gave us a clear-cut image of his position with Mayweather’s promotions after months of speculation about the same.
In a Twitter Spaces conversation hosted by @LazyLeftyOG, Davis stated that although he had love for ‘Money’ and his promotion, he is not contractually tied to the promotion.

“First and foremost, love to Mayweather Promotions and all that they have done for me. But I am definitely out of my contract, for sure,” he said.
‘Tank’ will face Hector Luis Garcia on 7th January at the Capital One Arena. However, it is unclear if this bout will be promoted as a collaboration between Davis and another promotion or will be solely promoted by Davis himself.
