After watching him knock out Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium last year on April 23, fans could barely believe that Tyson Fury‘s next opponent would be Anthony Joshua. The talks developed while the former came out of a brief retirement. In the meantime, the latter failed to manage answers to Oleksandr Usyk‘s questions. Despite both camps seemingly displaying an interest, the fight never came into being. Lest it gets forgotten, back in 2021, the two were about to face each other, but for the regulations that mandated ‘the Gypsy King’ to go through a rematch with former champion Deontay Wilder.
The new year started with a big bang announcement that the Mancunian’s fight with ‘The Cat’ was almost done for good. At the opposite corner, Joshua and his team seem keen to keep his career on track. He will be fighting American Jermaine Franklin on April 1. Hence it was obvious that talks on AJ versus Fury would spring up in due course.

A new twist to Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua?
Amidst this hype, a piece of news or two manages to send fans and followers into phases of excitement, doubt, and uproar. Take, for instance, Michael Benson’s tweet today. The talkSPORt’s online boxing editor shared an update that seems to have been sourced from iD Boxing. It read, “Bob Arum has declared that he still wants to make Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua if both men win in April and AJ’s team “don’t mess around” in negotiations. He said he believes Joshua is the “best fight” for Fury after Usyk.”

It seems fans and followers need something more concrete, more convincing to take them off the edge. The flurry of reactions that followed, some mentioned here, may attest to their manifold apprehensions.
It needs more than mere words to convince fans
@baboolaman calculated that if ‘The Gyspsy King’ won his bout against Usyk, then in all probability, he might pull an advantage out of the Joshua fight. After that, he needs to do is participate in exhibition bouts!
If Fury beats Usyk I could definitely see him cashing out vs AJ then retiring and doing celebrity fights

@Joey_CFC believes it might still not be acceptable to AJ and Eddie Hearn. Even before Fury knocks out and sends the former into permanent retirement, they want to rip the followers out of their hard-earned money for some more time.

AJ/Eddie won't take it. They'll want to con the public out of a few more quid before they let Fury retire him.

Probably dissed by the developments, @JordanFFFFF mooted that Fury should forget about AJ. After all, once he becomes the undisputed Heavyweight champion, mandatory challenges from Heavyweights like Daniel Dubois, Filip Hrgovic, and Joe Joyce will be binding on him. So Joshua can keep himself busy trying to fill up the O2 Arena while fighting Jermaine Franklin.
Forget AJ he isn’t worth a second of your time. Tyson Fury will become undisputed and then have mandatories against Dubois, Hrgovic, then Joyce. Or whoever is WBA, IBF, WBO mandatories at the time. Let AJ keep struggling to sell out half the O2 against Franklin, don’t need him!

@abdul_baaz elaborated that, allaying all the doubts and suspicions, Fury should agree to the terms and face Oleksandr Usyk. Is it because ‘The Gypsy King’ is aware that the only boxer capable enough to stop him is the Ukrainian?
Tyson Fury needs to sign the contract first and fight Usyk for undisputed HW championship and what exactly makes him delays?
I believe that the only man who will give Tyson Fury problem is Usyk and that’s why he’s thinking twice to sign up the contract! Now excuses continue 😂— Abdul Barber (@abdul_baaz) February 16, 2023
@joeleigh95 believes that Bob Arum, Frank Warren, and perhaps Anthony Joshua all want the big fight. But Eddie Hearn seems keen on his protege taken on sundry battles first. As far as Fury is concerned, he is barely bothered whether Joshua turns or not. Undoubtedly, Hearn is a difficult person.
Bob knows, Bob, Warren, Joshua all want it the most imo, I think Eddie would rather wait a few more fights first & I think Tyson doesn’t care one way or the other if it happens or not, Eddie seems a nightmare to work with sometimes.

@DanKeen22134385 seems a bit surprised that most of the boxers received plenty of time to sign up for a deal. For instance, Derek Chisora had three months to make up his mind. Likewise, Usyk has had plenty of time to confirm his participation. But AJ received only two weeks! But still, @DanKeen22134385 is okay with the disparity and hopes AJ and his team don’t waste the opportunity.
Chisora given 3 months to sign the contract,
Usyk, even longer.
Joshua given 2 weeks but yeah sure. As long as Joshua's team don't mess around 🙄— Daniel Picnic Handsome's US coast guard (@DanKeen22134385) February 16, 2023
@sinkr4te hazards a guess that all the permutations and combinations will come to naught if Jermaine Franklin and Oleksandr Usyk are the winners.
Game changes when Usyk and Franklin both win 😂👀👀

But reportedly, the reigning champion seems to opine differently. While speaking to Sport Bible, Fury said, “I don’t even [want to] go there anymore. Finished. No interest in any AJ questions. Zero. Man’s dead in my eyes. There’s no business between me and him to be done. Finished. From 2017 to, however long it’s been, 2022 – trying to make a fight. So, it’s not happening.”
