Explained: Mike Tyson’s Bizarre Habit of Breaking Awards

Mike Tyson has a phenomenal character arc. There have been champions in the history of boxing, but none can match the aura of the youngest heavyweight champion ever.

Apart from his boxing prowess, the legend is known for his unorthodox behavior as well. Notably, Tyson has several bizarre habits which often become a storyline; one of them is breaking awards. Though it is unbelievable because awards are meant to be kept as memorabilia since Tyson is the protagonist of this chapter, it is possible.

On his podcast, “Hotboxin with Mike Tyson” the former two-time heavyweight champion had renowned radio personality Angie Martinez as his guest. In the initial minutes of their conversation, both agreed that they did not care much about awards. But this opinion of Tyson has changed a lot with time.

Now, he has realized the motto behind getting awards.

“No, listen, I wanted to accept all our awards that we deserve was putting in that hard work. I used to break all my awards too, then I found out the awards are putting in all that hard work,” Tyson told Martinez.

Furthermore, he added on the question of validation, “No it can’t validate, but when you win the award, you should respect. Well, I used to break all my awards too.”

‘Kid Dynamite’ rocked the professional stage of boxing for over two decades. He was a revolution in the heavyweight division with a powerful butcher body and an amazing command over skills. In 1986, he got his first title shot and clinched WBC heavyweight title at the age of 20. This was historic; he became a household name.

A year later, he unified WBA and IBF heavyweight titles.

He kept all belts of that time period simultaneously for over 3 years. Apart from boxing, his achievements garnered many accolades from different institutions.
