It is no surprise that athletes make exorbitant amounts of money throughout their careers. However, some athletes have figured out ways to earn such money even after their retirement. The five-division champion, Floyd Mayweather, is a prime example as he continues to make hundreds of millions of dollars even after hanging up his gloves.

How did Floyd Mayweather make $220,000?

Floyd Mayweather amassed a fortune during his fighting career and continues to make incredible money through his exhibition fights. However, Mayweather also uses his sporting knowledge to bet on many different sports and make money.

In 2013, the 50-0 fighter placed a bet worth $200,000 on the college football star, Johnny Manziel, and Texas A&M University against SMU Mustangs. Additionally, Manziel won the Heisman trophy a year before, which was the highest individual honor in college football. However, his NFL career didn’t follow the same pattern.

Finally, Texas A&M defeated the Mustangs and won the legendary boxer a total of $420,000 worth of winnings, a whopping $220,000 profit. Additionally, Mayweather could have won more money as he initially intended on betting $300,000.

How much money has Floyd Mayweather made through his fights?

The undefeated fighter has earned a whopping $1.1 billion through his fights. His biggest payday came in the last fight of his career against UFC fighter Conor McGregor in 2018, when he earned $300 million, making it the biggest payday in the history of sports.

Furthermore, Mayweather earned almost a similar amount for his fight against the Philippines legend, Manny Pacquiao, in 2015. Mayweather earned $250 million as he defeated Pacquiao via decision.
