Despite his retirement from the sport after fighting Conor McGregor in August 2017, Floyd Mayweather has appeared in several exhibition bouts. And he might be gearing up for another one soon, but this time in India! The five-division champion recently visited the country for some official business.

Alongside his business partner, Jas Mathur, from Limitless X, ‘Money’ Mayweather landed in India to expand the lifestyle brand to the Indian market. During his time in the country, the former champion appeared in an interview with Zoom TV, suggesting he wants to host an exhibition fight in the country.

It wouldn’t be the first time Mayweather has hosted such an exhibition bout outside the US. Back in 2023, the retired boxer and Mathur announced their partnership while hosting an exhibition fight between Mayweather and former MMA fighter Aaron Chalmer at the O2 Arena in London. So, the people of India could expect a similar one in store for them.

Speaking to the Zoom TV representative, Mayweather stated, “We [will] continue to come back to India and pour the love and help the people [because] that’s what it’s about. I will come to India, me and Jas [have] been communicating, and we look forward to having an exhibition bout – over here in India for the people.”

Mayweather added that he wants to give people a glimpse of who he is, not ‘Money’ Mayweather nor ‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather. Rather, “Just a little snippet, so that’s why we want to come over here and do an exhibition. Very important for the people.” Meanwhile, his earlier conversation with the Press Trust of India further solidifies his recent claim.

According to a March 18 report from PTI, Mayweather told them over a call, “It’s possible. I look forward to having an exhibition over here in 2024. We are looking for a solid name as a solid opponent.” When the reporter asked ‘Money’ whether the opponent could be from India, the former champion did not do away with the possibility entirely.

Mayweather said, “I have a team. They take their time, do their homework, and choose the best opponent. We don’t know who the opponent will be maybe he’s from India or America, [or] the UK, or he could be from Japan. We just want to put on a show for the people.” With this development, an exhibition match could be held in India as soon as 2024.
