Gervonta Davis Wishes to Move up Three Weight Classes

After the collapse of his matchup with Rolando Romero, Gervonta Davis is now all set to go head-to-head with 23-year-old Mexican contender, Isaac Cruz. Stepping into this 135 lbs clash, ‘Tank’ is putting his WBA world lightweight title on the line. Cruz and Davis will walk into the Staples Center in Los Angeles on December 5.
Event though Isaac Cruz is a tough opponent who is not afraid to let his hands go, Gervonta Davis remains unfazed. Not only does he feel confident in his abilities, the 27-year-old is already looking past Isaac Cruz.

In a sit-down interview with Brian Custer on ‘The Last Stand’, ‘Tank’ Davis recently shared his thoughts on the Rolly Romero matchup failure, his new opponent, and even revealed his plans for the future.
In an unexpected turn of events, ‘Tank’ announced that he wants to ultimately move up three weight classes to 154 lbs (super-welterweight). He believes the journey to 154 could be “fun” and definitely sees the move as a real possibility.
“Would it be fun? I think it would be fun if I can do it, is 54. I’m saying if I can do it yeah that’s there, it’ll be fun,” said Gervonta Davis.
Gervonta Davis does not want to stick around the sport for long
Leading up to the Cruz vs Davis title clash, Showtime recently released an ‘All Access’ episode for the fight. The pre-fight feature gave fans a closer look at what goes on behind closed doors in training camps.
While we see Gervonta Davis flying around in private jets and hanging around Floyd Mayweather on social media all the time, this ‘All Access’ feature showed a different side that many have not seen before.

At one point, Davis is seen with his newborn daughter. Looking at her, Davis shared that he is extremely grateful to be a father to both of his daughters and he feels that he now has a bigger purpose to excel in life.
‘Tank’ revealed that he plans on building an empire of his own in the days to come so that the people around him can succeed as well. However, Davis also claimed that he wants to achieve all of this soon, he does not really want to stick around this sport for long.

“My own goal is to make sure I’m okay, the people that’s around me are okay. It’s not just me no more, I’m trying to build an empire where all those can be successful by the end of my career. I don’t really want to be doing this too long,” said Gervonta Davis.
Now that he has also revealed his plans of making it up to the 154 lbs division, it is quite possible that we might end up seeing Gervonta Davis first fight the top-dogs at lightweight, then even welterweight, and he might finish his career at the top of the super-welterweight class.
