After the 1988 bout with Michael Spinks, a fight that witnessed the pinnacle of Tyson’s popularity and boxing, life took an unprecedented turn. On one hand, Tyson parted with longtime trainer Kevin Rooney, and on the other, he fought several issues in his personal life. While his marriage with Robin Givens headed towards divorce, Buster Douglas, in the tenth round of their 1990 fight, knocked Mike Tyson out in an absolute shocker.

In a recent episode of Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, Tyson invited and engaged with his therapist, Seano. At one point in their discussion, Tyson spoke about the time when reality hit him, but Seano helped him survive. Tyson made some startling admissions.

“Well listen, when that reality hit I was a grown man and I’ve known him (Seano), that’s like 19 (years), 2004, right? Yeah, that’s when I first started working, trying to explain myself and trying to reprogram myself as a f** human being. I was such a neanderthal.” Here is what Tyson added as he went on.

Mike Tyson speaks about a vicious cycle

As he went on, he shed light on the darker side of being vested with a certain power. A mind that has no control over itself can only use power to its utmost corruption. Likewise, Tyson, who enjoyed a certain power and privilege given his status quo and financial success later in life, abused his power to an extent.

“Having s*x with strangers because I have the power to do it; go in the place have anybody you want; I have the power to do it, I abuse. I get sick sometimes. These b*** get me sick, I get them sick and it’s just a mission,” said Tyson.

Tyson had a hard time abiding temperance, and he fell prey to excess as he took advantage of his fame. Hopefully, Tyson, like he has overcome so many obstacles that include bankruptcy, disqualification, and knockout in his life, would also sooner realize the importance of moderation in life.

“A vicious cycle. Just grateful that you didn’t catch the monster or something, but it’s just a vicious cycle. Your mind wants to kill you, but it’s just happy with you being miserable. But with a gentleman and a brother like Seano in your life, he has you love yourself,” he added. Indeed, with a friend like his therapist Seano, Tyson has come to know himself better.
