Even former President Donald Trump weighed in on the matter, expressing his belief that Golovkin was unjustly robbed of victory in their first encounter. Trump’s boxing bombshell over Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin verdict

In a recent interview with UFC Unfiltered, the 77-year-old expressed his candid thoughts about the contentious first fight. Moreover, he didn’t mince his words stating that Golovkin was unfairly treated and “got screwed” in the decision. The former president believed that ‘GGG’s’ dominating performance should have earned him the victory. However, the judges’ verdict dictated otherwise. He also tactfully steered away from naming Alvarez directly. By choosing not to single out the Mexican fighter, Trump kept the focus on the perceived judging controversy.

“They had a couple of fights with him. It doesn’t matter who; I don’t want to say who, uh, he got screwed. Yeah, he would dominate a certain fight, and they didn’t give him the decision, and that takes your heart out. Uh, you know, that really, I think it took his heart out, but he was a great, that guy was a great fighter.” he said

UFC vs. Boxing: Trump weighs in on judging

In the interview, the former president also compared the judging in the two sports. According to Trump, the UFC’s judging has generally been more agreeable to him, with fewer questionable outcomes. However, the same could not be said for boxing. The former president stated that disagreements over decisions were rare in UFC, in contrast to boxing, where he’s witnessed fights where one fighter was clearly dominant, yet the decision favored the other.

“You know the decision-making in UFC. I never thought about it. It’s rare that really you disagree with a decision, it’s very rare. In boxing you would see, I’ve seen some fights that were so bad where a guy was pummeled for whatever number of rounds,” Trump said.
