“He Should Stay at 168”: Fans Advise Differently as Canelo Alvarez’s Manager Reveals the Next Fight to Be the Dmitry Bivol Rematch
Follow Us
The pound-for-pound King, Canelo Alvarez, is all set to step inside the ring again in September. The most obvious opponent for Canelo should be ‘The Mexican Monster’ David Benavidez. Mostly because Benavidez is a 27-0 fighter who just won the WBC interim Super Middleweight title after defeating Caleb Plant, and the rest of the belts in the division are conquered by Alvarez himself. Both boxers are destined to face one another one day anyways. But Canelo Alvarez doesn’t want what the public wants, as he is determined to get that Dmitry Bivol rematch for his September bout.
Now recently, Benavidez’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz revealed that they sent out an official offer to Alvarez for his September fight. Before this, Canelo received taunts from ‘The Mexican Monster’ on social media. Reportedly, both rival teams also had a meeting the other day.
But just a few hours ago, Salvador Rodriguez of ESPN KnockOut informed that Canelo Alvarez’s manager, Eddie Reynoso, revealed the current priority of Canelo, is Dmitry Bivol at the catchweight of 175lbs or 168lbs. And the meeting with the Benavidez’s promoter was nothing more than a friends’ get-together.

Ayer nos dejó en claro @CANELOTEAM que la prioridad para @Canelo sigue siendo @bivol_d… en 175 o 168, eso se verá. La reunión con @SampsonBoxing, dijo, fue de amigos. #ESPNKnockOut

After the true intentions of Canelo Alvarez came out in front of the public, the fans advised him differently. They want ‘Cinnamon’ to take on the bout against Benavidez, and move on from the Bivol rematch. Many even advised him to tackle ‘The Mexican Monster’ first, and then further step on to the rematch.
What do the fans want for Canelo Alvarez next?
One fan wrote that Bivol’s rematch doesn’t make any sense and advised Canelo Alvarez to not change his weight class, and remain at 168lbs.
No reason for a Bivol rematch. Should fight Benavidez in September. He should stay at 168. Weight classes exist for a reason.

Another fan stated that he should deal with Benavidez before Bivol. Mainly because if he won, he’ll have a “good win” on his record before the rematch.

They should do the Bivol rematch after Benavidez. That way atleast he'll have bounced back with a good win. Because 40 year old GGG and taxi driver Ryder don't cut it.

One user pointed out that this could be a marketing strategy for the fight. They further stated that if Alvarez will choose Benavidez now, it’ll create more hype for the event, so this could all be part of the promotion.
It could be a negotiating tactic, it would truly be massive if Canelo chose Benavidez it would shock the boxing world especially with the current rhetoric.
