“I Still Feel Like a Coward to This Day…”: Boxing Legend Mike Tyson Was Never the Same After This Incident

Mike Tyson had a hard-knock life. Even though he became a world champion in his early twenties, there were numerous incidents in his life where ‘Kid Dynamite’ felt scared, helpless, and alone. Tyson, who was raised by an impoverished single mother as long as she lived, was often subject to bullying and violence. Fallen a trap to his circumstances, Tyson was likely to end up misguided and lost in life. Fortunately, he met Cus D’Amato while still in his teens, and his life took a different turn.

Several infamous incidents marred Tyson’s career and life, but he fought back. In the past, Tyson once spoke about a bully he had faced when he was in his first grade, wore glasses, and above all, was only seven years old.

It was during the lunchtime when Tyson left school and was on his way home. He carried a few meatballs with him, wrapped in aluminum so they remained hot. At this hour, one guy came up to little Tyson and asked if he had any money. This incident had a profound effect on Tyson. In detail, here is what he later told.

Mike Tyson later recounted the tale. According to him, he still feels like a coward because of that bullying on that unfortunate day. Tyson did not have money, but the guy wanted his meatballs. The seven-year-old Tyson resisted and was beaten by that other guy. Although Tyson lacked the strength and courage to fight back, he “hunched over like a human shield” and protected his meatballs he was to bring home. He said, “I would let the bullies take my money, but I never let them take my food. I was hunched over like a human shield, protecting my meatballs.”

Bullying left a deep impact on Tyson’s life and this incident haunts him to this day. “I ran home, but he didn’t get my meatballs. I still feel like a coward to this day because of that bullying“, Tyson had said.
