Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has never shied away from discussing his personal battles, including his well-documented struggles with mental health. From a tumultuous childhood to the pressures of fame and success in the boxing world, ‘Iron Mike’ has navigated a journey marked by emotional highs and lows.
Moreover, in a recent episode of Hotboxin’ Tyson shared how his wife plays a pivotal role in helping him manage his aggression by urging him to take medication. This came after another celebrity, musician J Balvin open up about his mental struggles.

J Balvin opens up about his mental health struggles on Mike Tyson’s podcast
In a recent episode of Hotboxin, the Columbian revealed that he too had been struggling with a host of mental health issues. He claimed that he was an advocate for mental health and also took pills to help him be emotionally stable. Moreover, he urged people to not shy away from taking care of one’s mental health.
“When it comes to mental health, man, I’m really an advocate for that because we’re all humans, man. We’re vulnerable, you know? Like, I come from anxiety, depression, and I’ll deal with that. But I’m great right now, you know? I take my pills, yeah, you gotta be a man enough to accept that you have weakness and you’re vulnerable and that you need help” he said
Following this, Tyson would reveal that his wife often made him take pills at times he got aggressive. Furthermore, he even detailed how his everyday life was affected if he did not take the pills that his wife gave him.
Mike Tyson reveals how his wife helps him deal with mental health struggles
The former champion candidly stated that when his wife senses him becoming aggressive, she urges him to take medication. While he did not specify the exact type of medication, it is likely that he is referring to medication prescribed to manage his mental health.

“As soon as my wife feels I am aggressive, she says take your pills. If I don’t have those pills, it’s not going to be a good day. Everybody irritates me” he said.

Tyson and his current wife Lakhia have been married for over 13 years and it is great to see her still supporting the former champion. Tyson’s wife’s involvement in his mental health management is a testament to the importance of supportive relationships. Having a caring and understanding partner who actively encourages and supports seeking treatment can make a significant difference in one’s journey toward mental wellness. Especially for a person like ‘Iron Mike’ who has suffered a lot of trauma in his past.
