58-year-old Evander Holyfield may have taken the wrong decision of returning to action. While the two-division champion and boxing historian has nothing left to prove, his recent loss to Vitor Belfort in the Triller main-event is a massive scratch on his glittery resume. Coming in with all his experience of a pro boxer, Holyfield fell prey to Belfort’s knockout prowess and got stopped in the maiden round.
The fight could have been dramatic had it gone the distance. However, former UFC champion Vitor Belfort had no such intentions. He had arrived with a clear plan and pummeled ‘The Real Deal’. However, Holyfield seemed vexed about the referee’s call.

He accepted the loss, but not wholeheartedly. In the post-fight chat, Evander Holyfield shared views on his performance and sounded off during the whole media interaction.
He said, “I’m not hurt. It’s kinda sad. It is what it is, I think it was a bad call. I think the referee shouldn’t have stopped the fight that quick.”

The loss has also put a dent in the potential trilogy fight between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield. On their respective returns to action, both men have displayed contrasting performances. While Mike Tyson went the distance against Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition, Holyfield suffered a KO loss against Belfort.

Thus, Tyson clearly has an upper hand under this parameter. Many people may argue that Holyfield vs Tyson can still be intriguing. But none of the fighters are active or in their prime. Thus, it complicates the scenario even more.

But if he still opts to continue boxing, promoters and commissions have to look deeper into his opposition’s qualities. In that case, a trilogy (only an exhibition) against Tyson makes sense. That too, only if the governing bodies and both men agree on the terms.
