‘It’s Not About Changing Style’: Anthony Joshua Reveals His Motivation to Hire Robert Garcia

The star British heavyweight Anthony Joshua took a big decision before his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk. The former unified heavyweight champ has made a major change to his training camp. He has announced to train under the wings of the new coach Robert Garcia to bring in some positive changes.

Recently, the former two-time heavyweight champ Joshua reflected on the reasons for joining Garcia.

He said, “Main thing is a happy fighter is a dangerous fighter. I’m in a good place. I feel good. I’m happy. I’m about to start training now so yeah, Garcia is actually here now so we’re just working on a few things. It’s not about changing style as such. In my opinion, it’s like style could be Garcia style might be crouched down to five-foot bob and weave, but I’m a six-foot-six heavyweight, so it’s not about changing style.”

Furthermore, he clearly mentioned that it would not do any miracle, but certainly, it will help a lot on several grounds.

He told, “It’s about his experience and what he knows that championship level etc and adding that to the campus is priceless. In my opinion, but David will expand on that a bit more and yeah, I’m in a good place. I’m about to crack on training now.”

Notably, after facing the second loss of his career against former undisputed cruiserweight champion Usyk, Joshua came hinting at the failure of his entire team. According to him, his relationship with his team got sour, which finally resulted in his failure to defend his WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles against the Ukrainian heavyweight star.

Since then, the 32-year-old was on a quest to find a better trainer to replace his long-time coach Robert McCracken. Finally, the champ found a replacement in the name of renowned coach Robert Garcia.

The rematch between AJ and ‘The Cat’ was most likely to land in March or April. However, non-boxing reasons pushed the date further, as AJ’s opponent was not ready to fight.

As of now, AJ’s promoter, Eddie Hearn has revealed that the agreed date for the fight is 23rd July and the most probable venue is Saudi Arabia. However, an official announcement is yet to come.
