Teofimo Lopez is one of the biggest lightweight fighters of all time. In just a brief span of time, he has risen to the peak of the division, thus cementing himself as the unified 135-pound king. However, the unified super-lightweight champ, Josh Taylor, isn’t quite impressed with Lopez’s boxing run.
In a chat with Michael Benson, he said, “He’s saying he’s undisputed and he’s not. He’s got to beat Devin Haney, so he’s got unfinished business at lightweight. Did he do well to beat Lomachenko? Absolutely. But he did brilliant against a small lightweight.”
Asked Josh Taylor about Teofimo Lopez wanting to fight him: "He's saying he's undisputed and he's not. He's got to beat Devin Haney, so he's got unfinished business at lightweight. Did he do well to beat Lomachenko? Absolutely. But he did brilliant against a small lightweight."

Taylor fired at ‘The Takeover’ and stated that Lopez cannot be undisputed unless he fights the WBC champion, ‘The Dream’ Devin Haney. However, that may not happen till late 2021, as he will box the undefeated George Kambosos Jr. in a 12-round war on June 5. This will be Teofimo Lopez‘s first prime title defense fight, and it will play an important role in elevating his career. A win will see him open himself to even bigger fights in the future.
Considering the same, his stint from hereon will be extremely interesting. More than anyone else, ‘The Takeover’ is himself ecstatic to signify his run and make a mark of his own in one of the most competitive boxing divisions.
Does Teofimo Lopez possess enough skill sets in the bag to become the undisputed face of lightweights?
With a clean record of 16-0, the 23-year-old has annihilated every opponent he’s faced. In fact, for his last fight against Vasyl Lomachenko, Lopez won The Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year 2020.
Moreover, with this win, Lopez cemented his reign as the upcoming face of the lightweight landscape.
