Former IBF heavyweight world champion Charles Martin will take on Luis Ortiz. The two heavyweights have agreed to terms for a fight.

The fight takes place on New Year’s Day on January 1st, 2022 at the Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. While Martin will look to move closer to another title shot, Ortiz knows this will probably be his last chance to challenge for the title.

Charles Martin last fought in February 2020 against Gerald Washington in an IBF eliminator. The 35-year-old dismantled his opponent in the sixth round.

Ortiz, the soon-to-be 43-year-old, will be coming off a 14-month layoff since he obliterated a helpless Alexander ‘The Great’ Flores in just 45 seconds.

Both fighters are title contenders and have fought the best in the division. Charles Martin faced Anthony Joshua back in 2016. In that fight, ‘AJ’ outclassed Martin and became the IBF heavyweight world champion. Ortiz, on the other hand, challenged Wilder twice.

Despite dominating the early rounds and leading on the scorecards, Ortiz’s fate was the same in both the fights. All Wilder needed was one punch to land, to knock Ortiz out and defend his titles. Since then, Ortiz has not had a shot at the title, and he will look to make one final run at the belt as he nears retirement.
