The 168 lbs unification clash between Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant is no longer relevant on the charts. Following a few contractual turmoils, it seems the P4P king will now move into a different weight class, whereas Caleb Plant will seemingly defend his IBF strap against a mandatory contender.
Although Plant didn’t pose a sheer threat to Alvarez’s dominant run, the super middleweight unification bout had allured many people. That said, Caleb Plant has finally opened up on the scenario and has highlighted his opinion on the same.

The undefeated IBF super-middleweight champion took to social media and posted a picture of himself. In a lengthy caption, ‘Sweethands’ claimed that money had never driven him to box.
He wrote, “Boxing’s never been about money for me and that’s why they can’t understand it. It’s never been my driving force and it’s not my “WHY” and that’s why it’s so easy to be just as disciplined and hungry even after being a 7figure fighter (remember the internet says the earth is flat too lol)…because that’s not what I’m after and that’s not what keeps me going and you wish your favorite fighter felt the same way.”
Although Canelo Alvarez could have brought him his biggest payday, Caleb Plant can also grab electrifying matchups. Furthermore, his IBF championship will continue to provide him with relevant opponents. Meanwhile, the unification fight can still happen somewhere down the line.

Alvarez had sent shock waves in the super middleweight division with his sudden entry. He vanquished Callum Smith, Avni Yildirim, and Billy Joe Saunders in a span from December to May. Keeping the tag of the P4P King, Alvarez became the WBC, WBO, WBA, and Ring champion.
That said, the only missing belt is the IBF title. However, as of now, Canelo Alvarez may have to remain happy with his three belts. Considering his stardom, the Mexican elite will never run out of opponents.
