To which he replied, “It’s a long, long, long story. You know, there were certain powerhouses and players who were against us at golden boy. I mean, we’ve had many, many enemies man, I’ve been fighting people left and right. Promoting is a tough business, and when they want to take you down, it’s a tough business to be in. But we survived it, we had to sign the contracts and let them go. I really can’t get into details of what exactly happened, but you know it was a very unfortunate situation for us.”

The promoter explained that there were people against him and Alvarez, which led to the split up, among other things. But, he showed a bit of grief and disappointment on the subject, which denotes that he is not happy with what happened.

The duo had been together for some of the biggest matches of Alvarez’s career. It was one of the most contentious breakups in history, generating hundreds of headlines. However, ‘The Golden Boy of Boxing’ still has a soft spot for Alvarez, which he frequently expresses in interviews and tweets.

After ‘Saul Alvarez’s’ loss against Dmitry Bivol, the entire world was making comments about the match. Amidst this, De La Hoya took to Twitter and wrote to Alvarez, “It isn’t too late (yet) to switch back to the best promoter.”
