Oscar Valdez bagged the WBC super featherweight title with a thunderous KO against Miguel Berchelt in February and became a two-division champion. The undefeated titleholder executed a flawless performance, much similar to his other fights, and earned appraisals from several pundits.
However, Valdez claimed of having a unique approach towards the particular fight. Hailing from Team Canelo, the 30-year-old saw his head coach Eddy Reynoso turn more aggressive towards him in the camp. In a conversation with Fight Hub TV, the WBC champion revealed Reynoso’s approach to the fight and gave a lot of interesting insights into it.

“He (Eddy Reynoso) was a little bit different this fight. This fight, he was way more aggressive towards me. Kept on yelling at me, kept on reminding me not to mess up because he would tell me that. In training sessions, he would tell me ‘if we keep on working the same way we are working, we are going to win easy’,” said Valdez.
He added, “We are going to do this…He doesn’t know how to walk this way. But you just gotta listen to me.”
After winning against Berchelt, fans saw an emotional Oscar Valdez celebrate inside the ring with his coach alongside. There’s no denying that Valdez is currently a threat to the super featherweight unit and with a strong team behind him, it’s safe to envision him expanding the reign.
Oscar Valdez and the champions
Eddy Reynoso’s stable shelters WBC, WBA, Ring 168 lbs champion Canelo Alvarez, WBC (Interim) 135 lbs champion Ryan Garcia, former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. amongst others. While Oscar Valdez is also a champion addition into the slot. Hence, it is safe to say that he is surrounded by boxing’s who’s who.

Meanwhile, the super-flyweight division has the potential to see constant changes in its titleholders. So, Valdez will have to remain active and continue proving his worth. Moreover, as Valdez is already a two-division champion, he can opt to turn up at a bigger weight class if he successfully cleans out his current division.
