Following the controversial defeat against Devin Haney, Vasyl Lomachenko, at the post-fight conference, expressed that he did not need to win the fight’s final round. According to Lomachenko, he had done enough and by the end of the eleventh round, he felt he had captured a score sufficient for him to win the contest against Haney.
Hence, Lomachenko preferred defense going into the final round of the fight. As per his statement, during the eleventh round of the bout, he understood “it was my score“. However, contrary to Lomachenko’s belief, all three judges scored the contest in favor of Devin Haney declaring the same as the winner by unanimous decision. This decision has led the two-time Olympic gold medalist and the former unified lightweight champion to assert, “Maybe I don’t understand boxing.”

Boxing fans react as Vasyl Lomachenko doubts whether he understands the sport
As per his statement, the Ukrainian boxer felt that he needed to defend himself a little bit in the 12th round. In fact, he felt, “I can give him [Haney] the round. Then I go in the 12th round and understand maybe I need to little bit of defense and I can give him this round. I don’t need [to] win this round because I was winning. During [the] eleventh round, I understand it was my score. And I don’t know, maybe I don’t understand boxing,” Lomachenko said. After Michael Benson shared the clip via a tweet, several fans reacted to it. According to one fan, Lomachenko made a “Rookie mistake“.

Another fan believes that Loma’s mistake was “giving any round“. “Stop playing judge and let the judges judge. He should never let his foot off the gas and should have went for the KO when he had Haney hurt multiple times,” they added.
