At the LA press conference of Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia, Canelo told the media that David Benavidez had “nothing” significant to offer him. Therefore, Alvarez demanded a figure between $150 and $200 million to accept the bout against Benavidez. At this, furious by Alvarez’s statements, Benavidez ridiculed Canelo on social media, asking the former to “buy a pair of n*ts.” And today, analyst Stephen A. Smith backed Benavidez up.

On The Stephen A. Smith Show, the analyst contested Alvarez’s statements. In doing so, he emphasized that ‘Red Flag’ deserved a shot at Canelo’s undisputed Super-Middleweight title. Here is what he said.

Stephen A. Smith was upset that Canelo Alvarez claimed David Benavidez had nothing to offer him except money. Therefore, although Benavidez’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz agreed to pay Alvarez $150 million, Smith fumed at Canelo’s statements. As a result, despite calling the Mexican boxer “elite“, he said, “It is clear by what you are saying that you are ducking Benavidez. Because of the words you are using.

He [Benavidez] is “nothing”? You know better. Fight that man. That is the fight we want to see with you,” Stephen A. Smith said. And since Jermall Charlo wanted to avenge his brother’s loss to Canelo and Crawford wanted to challenge Alvarez for the Mexican’s undisputed Super-Middleweight title, Smith added, “We don’t want to see a fourth fight vs. ‘GGG’. We don’t want to see you fight another one of the Charlos. We don’t want to see Terence Crawford moving up three weight classes to fight you.”

We want you to fight right where you are against that dude in your weight division who’s been begging for a shot at the crown. David Benavidez deserves that. Anybody who respects boxing knows,” Stephen A. Smith declared.

He should be the man in the ring going up against you. Handle your business, this is part of it. Fight that man. Stop the bulls**t,” he concluded.
