Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has had a hard path to the top. However, he has faced some setbacks after his losses against Tyson Fury during their last two outings.

Wilder claimed that he wanted to take a break from boxing after his trilogy fight. However, The Bronze Bomber is currently preparing to get back into the ring to face Robert Helenius on October 15th.

Not long ago, Wilder sat down for an interview with 78SPORTSTV, where he revealed why he wasn’t keen on returning to the ring. The former Olympian stated that he had no reason to come back after he earned his due from the sport. He also added that boxing was not a rich man’s sport where money did not matter much to the boxers.

I had no reasoning to come back because let’s face it, if we were born with a silver spoon in our mouth, we wouldn’t be in this business. For what you’re coming for what this ain’t for nobody that this business is not for the rich and famous. So people you know coming into thinking this is what I want to get to make money,” he said.

He also claimed that most of the people he knew from his gym came from humble backgrounds, trying to earn a better lifestyle. “Most of the guys I’ve known have no known to come into the gym all that all of us coming out of a rural place of poverty,” he added.

Deontay Wilder wants to inspire people with his comeback

In an interview with FightHypeTV, The Bronze Bomber claimed he was returning to boxing to motivate and inspire his people. “The mind has only got stronger. The body, mind, and soul. So everyone is in for a treat. I’m coming back for a specific reason… I’m coming back to motivate, to inspire so many others.”

Helenius launched himself back into title contention after securing three consecutive knockout victories. Moreover, he recently knocked out previously unbeaten Adam Kownacki. The Finnish boxer will be an interesting match-up for Wilder before he can get back to facing the likes of Joshua and Tyson Fury.
