Yordenis Ugas has been a prime face of the welterweight division, but he hasn’t been in the limelight right from the beginning. He is, in fact, one highly skilled technician, who has spent a major chunk of his time in and around the 147-pound division. Moreover, Ugas, who has always tested himself against the sternest of challengers, has remained victorious in a majority of those bouts.
But why is it that Ugas hasn’t been a renowned star at welterweight? Why has he not come to the bigger picture despite having the WBA welterweight strap?
Ugas, in his prolonged career, has definitely fought some real good pugilists. But until now, he hasn’t fought the likes of Terence Crawford, Errol Spence Jr., or more, who hold a vast significance in the division.

’54 Milagros’ began his boxing career in 2010. In the initial years of his stint itself, he raised many eyebrows with his exemplary performances. Ugas, who saw a steep rise in his career with time, eventually added some thrilling weapons to his artillery.
He locked horns with many opponents across multiple divisions, but he found success in the welterweight roster itself. That said, he made sure not to bounce off to any other weight class frequently.
Despite being in his best form, ’54 Milagros’ succumbed to a few losses in his career. Yet, he always showed the champion’s mindset and rose to the top.
Can Yordenis Ugas become a welterweight GOAT?
For now, the 35-year-old’s career stands at 26-4, and he will look to secure his twenty-seventh win on August 21 in Las Vegas against Manny Pacquiao.
