It was about to join the ranks of the scheduled battles of the year. But instead, it took an unexpected detour. The fate, it seems, has relegated the fight to the ‘would have been’ archives. It may be in the future, but for now, as it appears, Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney will not face each other. Instead of the ring, though, rounds seem to have commenced in the social media arena. The opening one saw Garcia announce his move out of the Haney fight.

He shared instructions on instructing his team to pull in Rolando Romero. He labeled it, “That’s the move. Bigger Fight, Bigger Business.” But soon, he followed it up with a message directed at Devin Haney. He revealed that a fight with the WBC light welterweight champion could follow the Romero clash. Hence, ‘KingRy’ suggested that he could fight Richardson Hitchins for the time being. However, what came after? Many might term it a low blow. Garcia said that Devin Haney requires a fight with him rather than vice versa. So, he added, ‘The Dream’ should revert back to his ‘30K PPV Buy‘ fights. It would be naive to think that the former undisputed champion would let it go so easily.

Ryan Garcia wrote, “After what happens to Rollies, the dev fight will be there and even bigger. Everyone critiquing now. Will end up seeing it was a better move. Plus, he can go fight Richardson Hitchens. Go do your 30k PPV buys. I don’t need you, dev; you need me.” So early today, Devin Haney shot back. He asked if ‘KingRy’ is such a huge draw and why he has thus participated in only one PPV fight.

He probably referred to last April’s Gervonta Davis fight, which saw nearly 1.2 million pay-per-view subscriptions. Haney asked that Ryan Garcia hasn’t fought a PPV bout either before or after that. More so, Haney pointed out that his last fight in December barely saw any gate-inflow. ‘The Dream’ said, “If Ryan such a this big draw, why he only fought on PPV once? Never before, never after! Why he couldn’t sell out the last arena he fought in?

Fans on both sides of the corner seem elated and incensed at the recent development. A few pointed out that a fight with Rolando Romero would be more riveting. However, some questioned both boxers for the PPV numbers they had garnered.

A straight shot meanders….might hit a target

The sudden change has surely taken many by surprise. Just the other day, while speaking with Fight Hype and Fight Hub TV, Oscar De La Hoya stated how he had been instructed by Ryan Garcia to chase the fight with Devin Haney.

Also, in what could have been a royal mix-up, it seems that he wanted the top-ranking challenger in the 140-pound division, Ohara Davies, to take on Rolando Romero next. Provided he defeated Ismael Barroso on the Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Fredrick Lawson main cards. However, that may not happen now, as the British boxer lost the battle in the very first round.

But the fight with ‘Rollie’ might offer that hyper-excitement many fans look forward to. Given the bombast both boxers are prone to, they can expect fireworks right from the onset, much before the fight takes place. On the flip side, whether Ryan Garcia seizes Romero’s WBA belt or latter inflicts a second defeat on the Californian, a title unification fight with Devin Haney can’t be ruled out either.
