Everybody wants to fight Canelo Alvarez. The reigning super-middleweight undisputed champion recently defended his crown against the Brit John Ryder. And after the fight, many fingers have been pointed toward his future plans. The Mexican is yet to make any announcements about his next fight. But it seems like the chief of ‘Golden Boy Promotions’ Oscar De La Hoya already has an opponent in line for him. It is no secret that Alvarez wants to redeem himself against the Russian professional boxer Dmitry Bivol. But that fight seems to have a lot of hiccups toward its fruition. And the same is disappointing for Alvarez.

However, among the list of potential opponents for Alvarez, Oscar has put forward another name and claimed it to be an “inevitable” fight for the champion. It should be noted that it seems unclear who the champion will fight next. Who did Oscar pitch in?

Oscar De La Hoya’s challenger for Canelo Alvarez

In a recent interview with BoxingScene, Oscar De La Hoya revealed his plans to set up a fight between Alvarez and fellow Mexican professional boxer Jamie Munguia. The 26-year-old held the WBO junior middleweight title from 2018 to 2019 and has a winning streak of 41 wins with 0 losses.

Oscar De La Hoya said, “What’s stopping it is that Canelo is not wanting to fight another fellow Mexican fighter, which is kind of absurd.” The promoter further said that nationality doesn’t matter when you’re a top fighter. As you have to fight anyone who stands in your way and is “knocking on the door.” Oscar also revealed that he is not planning on going easy and trying different routes to get the fight. He added, “There are different ways. You can run, but you can’t hide. We’re going to keep pressuring and knocking on the door.”

The promoter believes that it will be a well-anticipated Mexican showdown. And that the world needs to see that. According to Oscar De La Hoya, the world has not seen an all-Mexican showdown for a long time. And he aims to show the world the greatness of “Mexican Boxing.” He has also been brutally honest about Alvarez’s performance against Ryder.
