The world of boxing is no stranger to tussles and rivalries. And it may even unfurl outside the realm of combatants beefing with other combatants. In a recent turn of events, the boxer turned promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, sent shockwaves in the boxing world with his comments. He accused Al Haymon of protecting his fighters from fighting against formidable opponents.
Al Haymon is not just any regular promoter. Haymon has been around the sport as a promoter since the 1990s and has been a promoter for many notable fighters; Floyd Mayweather Jr. being the most notable boxer. Although Haymon is familiar with criticism, the comments made by De La Hoya are startling, to say the least.

What did Oscar De La Hoya have to say about Al Haymon?
Every now and then, fans express their frustration over falling to make bouts take place between top contenders. Usually, it is the off-court negotiations and politics that come in the way as an obstacle. Reflecting on the same, De La Hoya used the example of Jermall Charlo. The junior middleweight champion last fought in June 2021. It has been 2 years since the champion defended his belt against anyone and De La Hoya accuses his promoter, Al Haymon, to be the reason behind the same.

In an interview with Fight Hype, De La Hoya stated, “Al Haymon loves to protect fighters. Since when have you heard a fighter hold on to a title for two years without making a defence? Nobodoy is saying anything about it.”
He added, “You should get stripped. No matter what the issues are you are still inactive. The rules and regulations of that particular organisation, they should take a look at it carefully and literally come up with a new rule.” The division has some exciting prospects and De La Hoya points out the fact that a champion cannot be sitting out for 2 years. And although he accused Haymon, one does not know the accurate reason behind Charlo not defending his belt for nearly than 2 years.
