“That’s an Option as Well”: Weeks After UKAD Appeal, Eddie Hearn Reveals What’s Next for Conor Benn

Conor Benn has finally been freed of all the accusations, and the suspension has also been lifted after a hearing. So, Benn can freely take up the big fights without facing any hindrances. Back in 2021, during the build of his bout against Chris Eubank Jr, Conor Benn failed in two voluntary anti-doping tests which became the reason behind the cancellation of the much-anticipated fight. But now, it has been waved off by the independent National Anti-Doping Panel, while the UK Anti-Doping has appealed against this decision.

Well, this struck Benn like a train and he even claimed to be “disappointed” by such an action taken by the UKAD. Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has thrown some light on the future of his boxer and how the Matchroom Boxing is deciding the steer his course for his future fights.

Eddie Hearn talks about Conor Benn’s future prospects

In a recent conversation with iFL TV, Eddie Hearn revealed that he’s having healthy conversations with the Board about Benn entering the ring in September of this year. The good thing is he hasn’t been denied of this, and Hearn revealed that he’s still licensed in the United States of America, so the Board cannot also do anything about it.

Moreover, he said, “The Board is happy for him to fight in Orlando. They’re not going to object to it, they’re not gonna say he can’t fight because they can’t, because he’s not suspended. He’s been cleared of his suspension. So that’s an option as well.” Moreover, Hearn wants Benn to have a warm-up fight before he steps into the big shoes again.

Hearn remarked, “So, ideally, we would like him to fight before he goes into that huge fight, which will be in December.” Hearn wants him to take on the prolonged Eubank Jr. fight then. But Benn believes he doesn’t need any warm-up and wants to go for the “mega fight” instantly.

Conor Benn wants to make his comeback count

On the contrary, when Conor Benn talked with iFL TV, he stated that he didn’t want to waste his time fighting a warm-up bout. He stated, “We’ll go straight into a mega fight.” Mainly because it’s not just about making a comeback for him, instead he wants to make a statement to the entire world. He stated that he didn’t want to waste that opportunity in a warm-up fight.

He said, “I come straight back into it, straight back into the mix, give me a final eliminator. If the belts come vacant, I was top five before every government body, I’m ready.” So he definitely doesn’t want an undercard fight, he wants to remain in the spotlight where he’s the center of attention.
