The NBA is always looking for exciting young talent to join the league. In order to scout the best talent across the nation, big brands hold several events to help youngsters showcase their talent to the world. One such reputed event is hosted by the $147.28 Bn sports apparel brand Nike, known as the Nike World Basketball Festival. Last weekend, the event touched down in New York City, and several active and retired NBA superstars who are part of the Swoosh family showed up to witness the next generation of hoopers in the country.

From retired Hall of Famers, including Dirk Nowitzki and Scottie Pippen, to NBA’s latest recruits, Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren, NBA superstars from all eras attended the event. While some superstars showed up in a drippy outfit, others were trolled by the fans for their outrageous dressing style.

Fans troll NBA superstars at Nike’s Big event

The Nike World Basketball Festival took place from September 15-16. The event was graced by NBA superstars like Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, and Ja Morant. The legends put on their best Nike attire from head to toe and sat to witness the scheduled games. But the NBA fans did not approve of some superstars’ outfits.

Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen decided to go with an All-black theme, but fans trolled him for looking like an older version of the American rapper “Future”. “Scottie so hurt by future, he look like him now.” and “Pippen look like an Old Future.” fans commented. Fans also mocked the 6-time Champion’s comically large Nike kicks, “Scott kicks are big asf damn dawg.” He was also compared to Ronald McDonald for his large shoes, “Pip wore Ronald McDonald’s sneakers.” Even recently retired New York Knicks legend Carmelo Anthony got trolled by the fans, “Melo, why those shoes?”

21-year-old Chet Holmgren was compared with a former US President, “Chet look like Abraham Lincoln”.

The Nike World Basketball Event was a huge success

Despite some fans having a field day mocking the NBA superstars for their outfits, the 2023 Nike World Basketball Festival was organized successfully. Most fans were excited to see so many NBA legends in one place during the off-season.
