John Cena has been in the wrestling business for 2+ decades now. In all these years, he gained experience in how to present himself in front of the audience to gain their support. Plus, he also learned how to make his opponents look good and uplift them. That’s what he did with Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39.

On the 3/6 edition of Monday Night Raw, he came to visit and interact with the WWE Universe at TD Garden Boston. But Theory soon interrupted him. In the midst of cutting a promo, he challenged the actor-turned-wrestler to a match at The Showcase of Immortals.

‘The Champ’ claimed ‘a-Town Down’ is not ready for a WrestleMania match with him. He also said quite a few harsh things to him. He recently revealed that he literally meant every word he said to Theory that day. But there is a big reason why he brutally slammed him in front of the WWE Universe.

Austin Theory doesn’t have a connection with the fans, says Cena

While speaking to Sam Roberts from Notsam Wrestling, Cena confessed that everything he said to Theory in the ring on 3/6 Raw, he had already said to him personally before. He believes the reigning United States Champion is not showcasing his true self to the WWE Universe. And that’s why his character can’t connect with them.

He said, “Fans can see through the BS if you don’t believe in your character. It’s what I said to Austin Theory, ‘Dude, you are young, you are athletic, you will work for this company, you’ll do interviews, you’ll go X, Y, and Z, I don’t believe what you do when you’re out there, I don’t.”

He thought that Theory’s story lacked a connection with the fans. So, while coming up with a storyline, he decided to go with this as a storyline buildup for The Showcase of Immortals.

“Let’s do this right, let’s get some equity here and then you have to start thinking about the angles and what’s the most important thing and what are we really trying to tell, what’s our story. Okay, I don’t believe what you do. That’s what I’m going with,” he added.

‘The Prototype’ faced Austin Theory at WrestleMania Goes Hollywood this year. Despite thousands of fans rooting for him to get one up on his Mania opponent, he lost his match. But he did it so in order to pave the way for his opponent, who is a next-generation superstar.
