“Circumstances Would Have to Change” – Dominic Thiem Echoes Novak Djokovic’s US Open Stance

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is pushing the edge of the envelope to hold the US Open 2020 on the scheduled date in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. However, Novak Djokovic raised concerns over the extreme measures taken by the organizers to ensure the safety of those involved in the event.
Djokovic believes that it is impossible to follow certain protocols imposed at the US Open, including limited entourage for the players. World No.3 Dominic Thiem also agrees with Djokovic. He feels that the situation needs to change for the players to travel to the USA.

“We’ll have to wait until the facts are out” – Dominic Thiem
“I think some circumstances would have to change to go there. We’ll have to wait until the facts are out and decide,” said Thiem during the press conference at the Adria Tour in Belgrade, Serbia.
He also stressed that a “Grand Slam can be pretty demanding physically and you’ll have to choose your coach or your physiotherapy.”

Alexander Zverev also expressed his reluctance to play the US Open 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic. Moreover, the current unrest in the country due to the ‘Black Lives Matter’ protest also raises concern over holding the event.
“It’s great if we get the opportunity to play, but under these circumstances, I don’t think a lot of players will feel comfortable in the environment there,” Zverev said.
