Over close to two decades, tennis has been dominated by a few prominent names. Amongst those names, one cannot forget to mention Rafael Nadal and his tremendous contribution to the sport. He has certain achievements in the game that may never be matched. 

Recently, Rafael Nadal was in Washington, competing in the Citi Open 2021. Although he did not do deep into the tournament, he did create some memorable moments. During the Kids Day at the tournament, the Spaniard surprised the youngsters present thereby paying them a visit.

Rafael Nadal’s kind gesture 

In the picture, Rafa can be seen standing in the center and one can notice the genuine thrill on the faces of those young ones. Nadal had worn black shorts along with a trademark sleeveless grey top. He teamed it up with a pair of fluorescent green shoes matched up with a similar colored cap.

Coming on to tennis, Nadal began competing in Melbourne at the Australian Open. However, the tournament ended for him in the quarterfinal, when he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas. It was one of the best matches as the Greek talent fought back from being two sets down.

Prior to the French Open, Rafa won titles in Barcelona and Rome. However, there was a disappointing result at Roland Garros when he lost in the semifinal to eventual champion Novak Djokovic. He decided to skip the Wimbledon Championships and the Tokyo Olympics. 

The Citi Open is his first event since the French Open. Since his journey came to an end early, he will now look forward to the upcoming tournaments in Montreal and Cincinnati. However, his main focus would be the US Open, a tournament he has won a couple of times in recent years. It’ll be interesting to see how he performs.
