“Don’t Think They Are Particularly Bothered”: Andy Murray Reveals if His Kids Are Aware of What He Is Doing

Recently, 3-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray and his wife Kim Sears welcomed the birth of their fourth child. As a result, Murray had withdrawn from the Dubai Open last week to be there with his family.

Having been married for six years now, the couple is also parents to two daughters – Sophia, 5, and Edie, 3 – and a 1-year-old son, Teddy.

In an interview with Prime Video, the host Catherine Whitaker asked Murray about what his older kids make of what he is doing and his comeback on the tour.

The former World No. 1 revealed his kids are least bothered by his professional tennis career. But the Brit mentioned that his daughter Edie gets upset whenever he leaves home to compete at a tournament and ignores him on Facetime.

“I don’t think they’re particularly bothered about it, to be honest. My middle daughter yeah, she’s sort of when I tell her that I’m going away she now gets upset and doesn’t like that I’m going away and kind of ignores me on FaceTime,” said Murray.

However, the 33-year-old hoped that one day his kids would accompany him to different tournaments and watch him compete. His arch-rival Roger Federer also has four kids who are sometimes seen cheering for their father, particularly at Wimbledon.

“But yeah, hopefully at some stage they’ll be able to come on the road to the tournament or whatever,” added Murray.

Up next, Murray will compete at the 2021 Miami Open, an event he has won twice in his career. However, Murray hasn’t competed at Miami Open since 2016 because of lingering hip injuries.

With Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem, and Roger Federer having pulled out of the Miami Open, the 2021 Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas will headline the event.
