Rockstar Games finally announced the ports of their popular open-world western adventure Red Dead Redemption for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. To the disappointment of every fan out there, this game will not feature much of an upgrade when it comes to visuals and such.

What came as a bigger surprise to many was the exclusion of PCs as platforms and the inclusion of Nintendo’s dated hybrid console for this upcoming launch. This has kicked off a weird discussion among fans.

The Nintendo Switch is indeed an underpowered console by today’s standards. However, this console is among the best-selling consoles of all time. The reason for this is very simple – an excellent library of games.

The library contains ports of classic old-timey games, ports of games that belonged to previous generations, and some downgraded ports of games released on consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S. There are also some mind-blowing console exclusives – games that sell millions of copies within a week of their launch. This success is what enticed Rockstar Games to bring Red Dead Redemption to the Nintendo Switch.

The game is looking as good as it did all those years ago. Rockstar was definitely not trying to present it as a game that looks any better. Nintendo’s console is somewhat more powerful than Red Dead Redemption’s original target consoles. Hence, it makes sense to assume that the game will perform better on the Switch.

Things like better load times, the elimination of that horrendous pop-in that the original PlayStation 3 version suffered from, and maybe, just maybe, an improved resolution of up to 1080p. A frame rate of 60 FPS might be possible, but it would be a waste to expect that, as it’s rumored even the PlayStation 4 version is not getting that.

Some fans doubt the game will perform better on Switch

There are numerous fans on Red Dead Redemption’s subreddit who are convinced this port will not run any better. They cannot help but discuss the drawbacks of bringing the game to Switch and how the end result would be pretty bad.

Redditor supalape predicts it will be a 30 FPS port and talked about what a travesty such a port would be.
