Yes, Fortnite is coming to the Olympics, but will it have the usual Battle Royale format? No. So, what exactly has the IOC planned for it?

Fortnite is one of the most popular titles in the world. Fans adore it for its vivid colors, availability of in-game characters, competitions, mechanics, and more. The game has never failed to impress with its collabs, always branching out to the best of the best. For instance, the devs recently added some extra skins to Goku in their Dragon Ball Z Super x Fortnite collab for fans.

All in all, the Epic Games title always saw an upward graph in the eSports world. And this made it clear that the game was going nowhere for at least a few decades. Now, Fortnite took its next step as the International Olympic Committee added it to their roster of games for Olympic Esports Week in Singapore. But again, there was a twist.

Apparently, they promised a ‘shooting competition’ in the game and not a battle royale format. This news stormed the market, baffling the community. In their statement, they said, “The competition will be an invitational event and involve 12 players from the Fortnite Champion Series. It will feature a special International Shooting Sport Federation Island created in Fortnite, which will be designed to reflect sport shooting competition. Players will be tested on their target aiming accuracy, just as sport shooters would in competition.” Moreover, all other games added were rip-offs of the original, as it was the first time IOC introduced eSports.

And not to forget the shiny cash prizes awarded to players. Here’s how fans commented on the issue. “L on the committee Who exactly is this for? There will be 0 viewership with this agenda.”

While another said, “It sounds ridiculous at first, but then I remembered the Olympics had professional walking. So at that point, pretty much any game requires more skill than that lol.

So, even if it is the first time that the world will witness eSports in an Olympic format, it would be great if they reserved its originality.
