Mario is probably the most known face for people, even outside the video game community. The story of the pipe-dwelling plumber on the journey to save a kidnapped princess has become iconic. There are all possible kinds of merchandise with Mario and Luigi’s faces on them, as well as some really cool collaborations with other developers. Mario’s superpower may very lie in still being able to hold a special place in every gamer’s heart despite tons of new games coming out almost every day. For the community members who have been playing games for over three decades, the early Mario titles are irreplaceable.

On July 14th, Nintendo celebrates the 40th anniversary of Mario Bros. On this day in 1983, the original Mario arcade game came out. And since then, the gaming industry has never been the same. The game was the first of its kind and introduced features that many devs still replicate in their games even today. This can show just how incredible the success Mario has achieved.

Mario also firmly established Shigeru Miyamoto as one of the biggest names in gaming. A Director at Nintendo since 2002, Miyamoto has become synonymous with Super Mario Bros.

Miyamoto was the main engine behind the Mario Bros. arcade, and the duo has been winning hearts for generations. As the game celebrates its four-decade reign, Miyamoto remains an integral part of the celebrations despite not being mentioned by the fans all the time.

Fans share fond memories

A recent Twitter post put up a post with celebratory intentions. And fans didn’t hold back from letting each other know just how fond they are of the game still. Despite being an arcade game, any veteran gamer would put Super Mario Bros. on their list of best games of all time.

40 years ago today the original MARIO BROS. arcade game by Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo was released. The game introduced spinning bonus coins, turtles that flip onto their backs, and Luigi!“, wrote the post. Brittany Gates got emotional and shared his earliest memories of playing the game on an Atari console.
