With each console of PlayStation released over the years, Sony followed it up with a smaller version of the console. It holds true with the PlayStation 3 as well as the PlayStation 4. However, when it came to the PlayStation 5, a slim edition became even more of a practical aspect. Just having the ability to decrease clutter with a smaller console can make your gaming setup look much better.

To explain, Nick reported the estimated price point of the console in addition to its supposed reveal date. According to these estimates, the slim version will retail for $399. It is over a hundred dollars cheaper than the digital version of the standard console. Sony’s move may boost its sales, especially in a tumultuous period of Microsoft acquiring Activision-Blizzard.

For gamers, the benefits look to be increasing. A hundred dollars cheaper console means a large number of fans can afford it, leading to a growth in the active player base. Moreover, what makes it even more lucrative is the idea of an external disk drive. If digital downloads are not your thing, you can plug in an external disk drive and play normally. One drawback of this feature is the disc drive’s compatibility. If you own a digital edition of the PS5, chances are the drive will not be compatible, at least at launch. There may be a software update set to come in the future.

Rumors suggest the August PlayStation Show, which will announce the slim version, will release almost immediately after, in September. Now, while all this sounds good, is it verifiable? These rumors come straight from Microsoft’s claims from an FTC document about PS5 Slim’s pricing. As a result, it looks increasingly likely the PlayStation 5 Slim will come this year.

The PlayStation 5 Slim could bring its own range of drawbacks. A smaller console could mean issues with the heat sync. If your console cannot dissipate heat well, it begins to sound like an airplane is taking off, and no one wants that. Once we have our hands on the slim edition, only then we can say for sure.
