Super Mario Bros. Movie Gets the Franchise Tag, but Where Can Nintendo Take the Cinematic Adaptation Next?

Universal has announced that the Super Mario Bros. movie is now part of a franchise. That was not very surprising, given the fact that there are already talks of a sequel going on. And what movie becomes the fastest-earning animated movie and does not end up being a franchise? It is a pretty normal response from Universal. But where can they take it?
When it comes to telling interesting stories in the Super Mario universe, there’s hardly a lack of content. It has numerous installments where sequels can go. Then there’s that colorful cast of characters, paving the way for numerous spin-offs. Here are some directions Universal can take this franchise in.

While the first game took the basic Super Mario story and took it for a spin by adding a multidimensional trick to it, Now they should have a homely Super Mario tale inspired by Super Mario Bros. 3.

The game itself was said to be a play, and it looked beautiful in every way. Imagine Mario traveling through some really beautiful backdrops with beautiful music playing in the background. Of course, the story is the same: he has to save someone—maybe not Luigi, though.
Luigi’s Mansion
This one has been on everyone’s mind since they even saw the first Super Mario Bros. movie. Charlie Day’s performance as a scared, shivering Luigi was way better than Chris Patt’s performance. This quickly gave rise to the speculation that he could make a return to the franchise in Luigi’s Mansion games.
Charlie himself suggested that he would love to take part in a movie based on the horror comedy games. Unaware fans would love to know that these games feature Luigi as he looks for his missing older brother in a huge haunted mansion.

Super Mario Odyssey
For fans wanting something more modern and faster-forward, maybe the studio can go ahead and do an odyssey. As usual, Princess Peach gets kidnapped by none other than Kupa King Bowsr himself. As he spends the course of the game collecting supplies to arrange his and Princess Peach’s marriage ceremony,
Mario, on the other hand, has to travel around the universe to look for them in a spaceship called Odyssey.

These are only some of the ways Universal and Nintendo can go about expanding this franchise. It would be interesting to see what they have in mind themselves, though.
