The success of Super Mario Bros. just keeps on increasing. The movie has garnered international praise and, along with that, also collected millions of dollars. With the success of this movie, Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma has also expressed the desire for a Zelda movie. And this may become a reality, due to the number of higher-ups praising the success of the Mario movie and willing to invest in more.

The latest addition to the list of higher-ups praising the movie is surprisingly not from Nintendo. This time, Sony’s CEO Kenichiro Yoshida has come forward to praise this record-breaking animated movie.

In a recent Sony investor briefing, Kenichiro Yoshida had some praise-worthy words for Nintendo’s IP. He shared his experience when he went to watch the movie and stated he loved it. Yoshida said Mario is a beautiful and wonderful IP. He himself played the Mario games intensely 30 years ago. This goes on to show how many generations of gamers have loved the Italian plumber on his adventure.

Even Yoshida believed in the fact that Mario is now a timeless classic. And he wants to replicate the timeless success of Mario and create one for themselves. While Yoshida didn’t share specific thoughts on the Mario movie itself, he did praise the franchise in general with the following statement, “A lovable IP can survive 30, 50, or 100 years. That is something we would like to make an investment into for sustainable growth.”

The fans are also loving this rare occurrence of the top figure of a rival company praising the creations of their competition. Although Yoshida praised the IP of their rival company, they too have an ample stock of adaptations coming for their own original titles.

Upcoming adaptations of PlayStation’s IP

PlayStation’s two oldest IPs, Twisted Metal and Gran Turismo are the first in line to receive live-action adaptations. Twisted Metal is getting a live-action series that will stream on Peacock starting on July 27. After that, we will be getting a Gran Turismo movie starring David Harbour on August 11.

These PlayStation movies will be going head-to-head with Nintendo’s adaptation. And it would be a treat for the fans to watch both studios giving their all to create movies like this.
