Bernie Ecclestone became the CEO of Formula 1 in the 1970s. With his astute business acumen, he turned Formula 1 into one of the world’s most successful brands. As a result, the sport is now a global phenomenon watched by hundreds of millions of people each year.

Back in the 1970s and 1980s, he recognized that television had all the power and made partnerships and deals with enormous companies. He was the man behind F1’s rise, especially after he acquired the F1 commercial rights from the FIA.

The $3 billion worth Ecclestone is a huge fan of motorsport and F1. Before trading his interests in the business part of Formula 1, the Englishman owned an F1 team himself. Under his ownership, Brabham F1 became one of the top teams in Formula 1.

It has great provenance and, therefore, has been a source of inspiration for many generations of car lovers. However, he has only revealed his collection on special occasions and when he sold his rarest cars in an auction back in 2007.

He had a 1937 Mercedes-Benz Roadster, which was sold at $8 million during an auction in 2007. He also has a special collection of Formula 1 cars. Moreover, it is rumored that he has over 100 F1 cars in his collection.

The group of cars mostly consists of Ferrari and Brabham. But, he also bought the McLaren of Ayrton Senna’s famous 1993 Monaco GP victory in an auction back few years back for around $5 million. Moreover, the iconic BT46B (1978 Brabham) popularly known as ‘fan car’, also resides with Bernie.

Additionally, the 1966 Ferrari 312 single-seater, which played a part in the legendary movie ‘Grand Prix’, is also included in his collection. Some of the notable cars include the 1956 Vanwall, Mercedes Benz W125 from 1937, 1955 Connaught B-Type and the last Brabham car in the Ecclestone era, the BMW BT56.

Bernie Ecclestone’s car collection curator, Robert Dean, revealed that his collection was one of the best in the world. Speaking to the Greenwood Road and Racing podcast a few years back, he said, “ Yeah, I think it’s probably one of the top 5 racing car collections in the world. You know there are people have more cars, many more cars, but you’ll find that they are mostly road cars.

“But you’ll find that they’re mostly road cars and things you can buy, you know see the cars and stuffs. But in terms of actual racing cars, we know our collection spans from 32 all the way up to 88. And we have got a lot of front engine cars. And obviously the Brabham collection and quite a few Ferrari collection as well.
