In 2023, Carlos Sainz became the only driver in 2023 to win a Grand Prix, planting the sole flag at the entry gate of Maranello. What did he get in return? An exit call from Ferrari because Lewis Hamilton had suddenly become available. Fred Vasseur self admittedly made the most difficult call of his career to inform Sainz that this was it for his red dream. However, a recent turn of events has pushed Vasseur to admit to Sainz’s superiority.

What happened, you ask? Sainz’s appendicitis led Ollie Bearman to make a stellar debut. It was a last-minute call as Carlos drove on Thursday despite the grueling pain. And from Friday onwards, Bearman was put in the car. However, despite the obvious, the British rookie managed to pull off another wonder. It was to make Ferrari admit to Carlos Sainz’s superiority.

Sainz’s race engineer, Riccardo Adami, also known as Ricky, looked after Bearman. According to Speedweek, he said, “His feedback was comprehensive and well-founded. But compared to the work with Carlos, I had to take a step back because Oliver doesn’t have the experience of Sainz. It was a pleasure to watch him at work. His speed and maturity were really amazing.”

According to Corriere dello Sport, negotiations with Mercedes “have begun”. “During the Saudi Arabian GP, the entire entourage of Carlos Sainz remained in the Mercedes hospitality for a long time,” the Italian publication claims. Sainz Jr’s contract with Ferrari expires at the end of the season, and for this reason, his manager Carlos Onorio, together with the driver’s father Carlos Sainz Snr, spoke at length with Toto Wolff.”
