While Mercedes is rallying its all-British lineup for the first time, one of the Britons Lewis Hamilton has been a part of the all-English driver lineup in his McLaren days. He had partnered with compatriot Jenson Button for a few years after Button won a championship with Brawn, which later became Mercedes. While that is a lot of crossovers for one introduction, the point the author’s trying to drive home is that the men have been connected in one way or the other. And now the Sky associate Jenson has made an optimistic declaration about Lewis, but F1 Twitter is just not having it.

Sky Sports is often called biased towards Hamilton. One of the most recent incidents was Ted Kravitz expressing his very evident displeasure over Lewis’ loss in the Abu Dhabi GP and Red Bull’s subsequent boycott of the broadcaster. However, probably keeping up with the traditions, Button hailed his countryman Sir Lewis Hamilton and declared that the 38-year-old is going nowhere.

The Sky contributor said, “If you are in a bad car for many years, you want to retire because it just gets you down, but Lewis is not in a bad car. He is just in a car that is not as good as what he has been used to, and I get that.

“But he knows the strength of the team, he knows how quick he still is, so he is going to work with this team to get back to fighting with Red Bull, and they will. It probably won’t be this year, but in 2024, we will see Lewis on the grid. He is still hungry to win another world championship.”

While Lewis Hamilton is being hailed by his countryman, fans seem to take the opposite podium in the debate.

Fans slam Sky and Jenson Button for Lewis Hamilton bias

“I don’t think Lewis is going to walk away from the sport,” said Button. He is a firm believer that if you are used to winning and are not doing that anymore, you’d want to fight back and not retire. And while this seemed like a happy ending to our speculations, F1 Twitter wasn’t kind about it.
